Manual Therapy

Benefits/Purpose:  Improve tissue extensibility, increase range of motion of the joint complex, mobilize or manipulation of soft tissues and joints, induce relaxation, change muscle function, modulate pain and optimize function, and reduce soft tissue swelling, inflammation or movement restrictions.

Frequency:  Once weekly up to once monthly depending on desired results.  Manual therapy treatments are given in 30–60-minute sessions and a combination session- 120 minutes.

Manual therapy is a specialized treatment approach that consists of skilled hands-on-techniques including joint mobilization/manipulation, trigger point release, myofascial release, manual traction, massage, passive range of motion and other interventions designed to mobilize joints, activate muscles, connective tissues, and stimulate nerves in order to facilitate healing and restore optimal function.

As a human physical therapist, I have been studying and perfecting my manual therapy techniques for the past 28 years.  I am passionate about the difference manual therapy techniques make in recovery overall.

What to expect:  Manual therapy is proven to be effective and serves as a non-invasive treatment option.  Most patients are very relaxed during treatments and can have immediate beneficial results.  These specialized techniques done in combination with critical thinking and skilled hands can make a huge difference in recovery outcomes which sets CLE K9 Rehab apart from any other canine rehab facility without a licensed physical therapist on staff.

Conditions that manual therapy has shown to be effective in treating:

  • Muscle spasms

  • Muscle strains

  • Edema

  • Pain

  • Postural dysfunction

Take away:  Performing manual therapy techniques is an essential component of advancing tissue healing after injury or surgery.  I use several manual therapy techniques such as joint mobilization/manipulation, trigger point release, myofascial release, stretching, massage and range of motion to reach the desired goals for each dog.
