About Renee Scholz

Renee Scholz, founder, and CEO of Cleveland K9 Rehab has been a Physical Therapist since 1992, but a dog lover for a whole lot longer. After graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy from Cleveland State University in 1992, Renee has spent decades working with people to improve their physical mobility and function. Having been The Director of the Physical Therapy Assistant Program at Kent State University, a Clinical Specialist for Genesis Healthcare, the Director of Physical Therapy for Rehab Care, and currently a Physical Therapist for the Cleveland Clinic Rehab Hospital, Renee has treated a wide variety of conditions and injuries in humans her entire career.

And while Renee loves helping people, as a dog owner, she knew it was time to chase a new passion, so she continued her education at the Canine Rehabilitation Institute. Studying under world-renowned Dr. Janice Huntingford at the Essex Animal Hospital in Ontario, Canada, and Dr. Mary Cardeccia at Animal Rehabilitation Institute in Dexter, Michigan, Renee mastered the integration of physical therapy techniques into the assessment and care of canine patients. Graduating in 2018, she is now a Certified Canine Rehab Therapist (CCRT) and a member of the International Association of Veterinary Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy.

Equipped with an understanding of the canine structure, mechanics, and behavior, coupled with her extensive Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation background, Renee is able to provide optimal rehabilitation for canines in order to increase muscle function and joint mobility. This not only helps your pet recover after getting injured or having surgery but can also help to improve their quality of life as they age so they can return to their daily walks and other physical activities they enjoy.

Following a model that is similar to human healthcare, Renee works hand in hand with your pet’s veterinarian to ensure that your dog receives the care they need based on their medical issue. This is done by developing an individualized rehabilitation program based on your pet’s needs and goals. She not only focuses on biomechanics, movement science, therapeutic modalities, and manual therapy including trigger point release, joint mobilization, cross friction massage, and myofascial release, but Renee also offers progressive exercise programs that teach pet owners how to best help their pet after they take them back home.

An avid dog lover, and dog mom to Toby, the West Highland White Terrier, Renee is proud to combine her knowledge in rehabilitation with her passion for canines and she can’t wait to meet you and your furry friend!

“I have had the privilege to utilize Renee Scholz on some of my clinic’s canine rehabilitation programs. In this time, Renee helped identify and address many soft tissue and orthopedic issues on her assigned patients, specifically adding a component of manual therapy to their programs. The outcomes for rehabilitation of her patients with soft tissue injuries indicate the values of these services.”

- Dr. Mary L. Cardeccia, Director and Veterinarian, Animal Rehabilitation Facility, Dexter, Michigan

“Renee’s love of dogs, her people skills, and her organizational skills qualify her to be the best canine therapist anywhere. I could not possibly recommend a more talented, dedicated, knowledgeable, and caring Canine Therapist than Renee Scholz.”
