Balance/Proprioception Therapy

Balance exercises is one of the four types of exercise along with strength, endurance, and flexibility/range of motion (ROM) that is important for many activities of daily living such as walking and going up & downstairs for humans and dogs. Following injury, balance & proprioception retraining focuses on strengthening core muscles and improving body awareness utilizing a variety of exercises and techniques.  These exercises and techniques will also decrease compensatory habits that your pet may have developed post-injury or surgery.  Core strength and stability reduces risk of injury and is necessary for proper conditioning and strengthening of the rest of the body.  A strong core provides additional support to your pet’s spine to prevent intervertebral disc problems and joint dysfunctions of the spine.  For our sport dogs, improving balance and muscle group coordination will naturally increase your pet’s body’s ability to control itself during challenging tasks.  This means improved agility, quicker reaction times, and improved overall performance.
